Dental Implants

Our Clinic has grown to provide a world class facility for the treatment of tooth loss, dental cosmetics and advanced restorative dentistry.

Missing teeth and loss of tooth function is one of the most common dental problems facing everyone today. Removable dentures cannot exactly replicate tooth function due to its mobile nature as well as the amount of plate covering the surrounding gingiva is a common source of irritation. Fixed partial dentures require unnecessary trauma to adjacent teeth which would later require root canals and decrease the life time of the tooth. The answer to these difficulties is the tooth implant. It consists of a Titanium screw which is screwed and anchored into the jaw and a crown or bridge is fit over the screw. A miracle of modern dentistry which has made a lot of people regain their lost tooth function without the hassles dentures.

Types of implants

Our clinic offers two methodologies of treatment

Crestal Implants are the first kind of implants developed and done by almost 90 percent of implatologists aruond the world. It jas undergone quite a few changes along the years but it primarily consists of implant screw an abutment and crown.

Phase 1
As was explained crestal implants require a lot of bone for it to integrate. When there is deficiency of bone there may be need for sinus lifts, ridge augmentations and bone grafts. After these procedures are done the implants will be placed in In most cases, the implants will be placed in simultaneously during the procedure. For more information on that please do check our FAQ section.

We get you prepped for the phase 1 part of the treatment, relaxed and ready for the implants to be placed. A local anesthetic will be given so that you do not feel any pain during the procedure. An incision is made and the bone is exposed and drilling is done to the desired depth depending on which length of implants are going to b e used. The implants are then screwed into the bone. Stitches will be given to cover the implant so that is not disturbed during its integration with bone. This integration may take three to six months, in the intervening period a removable partial denture may be given to you.

Phase 2
This is usually done after three or six months depending on the condition of the bone. X-Rays will be taken to appreciate how much of the implant has integrated with the bone. If sufficient integration is seen the implants will be exposed to put in healing caps for the gums to have a nice well adapted appearance around the crown.

Phase 3
This is usually done after a period of 10 days and it is the impression taking phase, The Healing caps are removed and abutments are placed and impressions are taken and sent to the Lab. The shade of the patients teeth will also be taken.

Phase 4
The final phase involves fixing the abutment and cementing the crown or screwing in the crown depending on the operator. You have your teeth and you are ready to go.
Basal Implants are the latest in the field of Implants whereby the cases where bone is less and crestal implants cannot be placed are taken up and succesfully implanted and teeth are placed within three days.

Basal Implants involves placement of implants and then the teeth within three days.

Day 1
You are prepped for the implant surgery. A local anesthetic will be given and the implants will be placed. An impression will be taken of the implants and given to the lab. You will be given medication and allowed to rest. In the evening a wax trial of the teeth are taken.

Day 2
A Metal frame is fabricated and a trial is done on the implants. A wax trial will be done again and given to the lab technician. In the evening a trial with teeth in wax will be done to see if the bite is okay and if you are satisfied with your smile.

Day 3
Your new teeth are ready and cemented on the implants.
An Orthopantomogram will be taken to find out how much bone is left and the implantologist will plan the number and location of these implants. A Flap will be opened in the region where the implant has to be placed and a hole for the implant to be placed will be made witht the help of a drill. After this the implant is screwed into this prepared hole with the help of a driver. In the case of crestal two stage implants you will have to wait a period of three months after the implant has been placed to put in the abutment followed by an impression and a crown. In the case of immediate loading basal implants the implants re placed and the patient is recalled within 72 hours for the provisional teeth to be fitted in. Whether you are a candidate for crestal implants or basal implants is for the dentist to decide.

After discussing the merits and demerits of each implant system we will decide on a system and prepare you for the same.
